Description:Moxifloxacin hydrochloride is an antibiotic prescription medicine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of certain bacterial infections, such as acute worsening of chronic bronchitis; pneumonia; plague; and skin, abdominal, and acute sinus infections.
Certain bacterial respiratory diseases (such as pneumonia) are opportunistic infections of HIV. An opportunistic infection is an infection that occurs more frequently or is more severe in people with weakened immune systems-such as those infected with HIV-than in people with healthy immune systems.
Moxifloxacin hydrochloride is used to treat bacterial pneumonia in people with HIV. Moxifloxacin hydrochloride can also be used off-label to treat other opportunistic infections of HIV infection.
