Custom Glossy PET Round Buttons Metal Dome Membrane Switches
A membrane switch is an electrical switch for turning a circuit on and off. It differs from a mechanical switch, which is usually made of copper and plastic parts: A membrane switch is a circuit printed on PET or ITO. The ink used for screen printing is usually copper / silver / graphite filled and therefore conductive.
Membrane switches are user-equipment interface utilities that allow for the communication of commands from users to electronic devices. Membrane switches can be thought of as one category of interface utilities alongside touch screens, plastic keyboards, toggle switches and many other kinds of control systems. Interface utilities can be as simple as tactile switches for controlling lighting, and they can be as complicated as membrane keyboards and switch panels for use with computers.

This type is somehow similar to single layer type by means of metal dome contacts attached under Maylar. But the difference is that, in this type, the Spacer is attached under the metal dome contacts. Air paths which function like air holes in single-layer, helps provide good click-feeling when dome contacts are pressed. Besides this effect, air paths help reduce the chance for PET film being damaged by metal dome contacts' burr and block dust coming into PET films.
1. Overlay materials:
A variety of overlay materials are used in membrane switch appliactions. Different material performs differently. Often, Matte PC (smooth), gloss PC + matte oil, gloss PC, PVC and PET(Polyester) are more suggested.

3. Tactile feedback for button switches:
For obtaining a good feedback from the buttons, there are usually two methods to make it.
A. Raising certain areas of the graphic overlay by tooling can be offered --Poly Domes. And the shapes and styles of the embossing can be various flexibly. Common hard-tooled embossing types include: Ring embossing, pillow embossing and dome embossing.
B. Adding extra parts on the switch to get the crisp effect--Metal domes. Metal domes can be provided in several different sizes according to the switch size.
4. Cut-outs
For some products, it needs holes and cutouts to meet its final application. Usually, these cutouts are achieved by laser cutting machine and hard tooling punching.
5. Flat flexible cable
As a keypad, it is usually required to have conductive performance. It is the circuit called in the membrane industry. It can be flexibly designed on a polyester sheet with silver conductivity printed. Also it can be copper etched for a better stability in the performance
