Kelai composite decking is manufactured from a proprietary formulation of 60% reclaimed wood fibres, 30% recycled HDPE plastics such as detergent bottles and milk cartons and 10% additives to assist with its UV resistance, scratch resistance, fire resistance and other elements. For the second generation composite decking each board is further protected by a Supershield 360-degree encapsulation. This durable composition combined with natural wood colours and grain yields a composite decking board that boasts both beauty and strength.
2.What is HDPE?
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has an extra high strength-to-density ratio and is one of the most commonly used plastics - typically found in more rigid products like milk containers, cups and water bottles. Its strength acts as a barrier against moisture and resists insects, rot and other chemicals. Easily recyclable and free from harmful emissions, the use of HDPE results in decking boards that are stronger, ultra-durable and more sustainable than composites with non-HDPE plastics.
3.How do I clean and maintain my composite deck?
Kelai Decking is designed to withstand the daily wear and tear of outdoor living. We do recommend cleaning your deck at least twice a year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains. A broom works better than a hose and is a more environmentally friendly cleaning method. If you find accumulated dirt or grime, use soap and water and a soft scrub brush and simply rinse off with water.
4.Can I power wash Kelai Composite Decking?
It is recommended that only professionals use a pressure washer with wide fan tips at low pressures. If done improperly, extreme concentrated high pressure will damage any composite deck material. Exercise caution and check with a professional as improper use could lead to damage or loss of your warranty coverage.
5.Will heat from grills or fire pits harm Kelai composite Decking?
Not usually, but dripping grease can cause stains, so it is recommended a mat is placed under your grill. Improperly installed fire features and fire pits can cause damage from direct exposure to flames or excessive radiated heat. Exercise proper caution when designing, installing and using fire features.
6.Is Kelai Composite Decking slippery when wet?
No, but like any wet surface, caution must be taken. Kelai Decking is manufactured to have a non-slip finish on the face of the decking board. It has excellent slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions. Kelai Decking achieved a R10 slip rating.
7.Will Kelai Decking products weather (fade/change colour)?
Kelai co-extrusion composite decking has a full Supershield 360-degree encapsulation that provides superior fade and stain resistance. Kelai traditional composite decking will stabilise its colour in the first 3-6 months when first exposed to UV.
8.Is Poliwood Decking made from recycled material?
Kelai composite Decking is made from 90% recycled materials, including reclaimed timber and sawdust as well as recycled plastic from many common household items, such as plastic wrap, bottles and containers.
9.How can I melt ice off my kelai composite Deck?
Calcium chloride or rock salt can be used to melt ice and snow on kelai Decking. Care should be taken to rinse off when the weather makes this practical. Use plastic shovels (never metal) to remove snow and ice. A metal shovel can possibly chip the decking surface and void the warranty.
10.Can Kelai Composite Decking be used by the ocean?
Most definitely. Due to its makeup it is unaffected by the salt in the air.
