1- Anti-inflammation
Piperine can inhibit production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Thereby, it cuts down expression of inflammatory
cytokines such as interleukin 1, interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor α, etc. Therefore, Piperine can reduce
inflammation and pain. It exerts an banti-inflammatory effect.
2-Promotion of penetration
Piperine can be absorbed through skin, and act directly on subcutaneous tissues, nerves and blood vessels. Thus
Piperine can significantly improve and promote absorption and utilization of active ingredients in skin. Also it can
help cosmetic ingredients quickly penetrate into skin.
3-Anti-oxidation
Piperine can reduce oxidative stress damage of cells in the process of oxygen free radicals generation and
scavenging. Additionally, it has certain scavenging capacity to hydroxyl and DPPH free radicals. It exhibits
anti-oxidation property. Its anti-oxidative capacity is equivalent to 60.05% of vitamin C; and it is stable in
acidic medium.
4-Other function
Piperine can stimulate activity of melanocytes. It increases the amount of tyrosine, and promotes expression of
TPR1. Thus Piperine accelerates synthesis of melanin in epidermal melanocytes. It can be added into
cosmeceuticals for treatment of depigmentation dermatosis.
