APPLICATION IN CONTINUOUS CASTING INDUSTRY
• Advanced production methods such as direct continuous (or semi-continuous) fabrication of rods or pipes from molten metal state.Artificial graphite is considered to be the most suitable material for continuous casting or semi-continuous casting of non-ferrous metals.Production practice has proved that using graphite mould continuous casting industry, because of its good performance of thermal conductivity, thermal conductivity performance determines the speed of solidification of the metal or alloy), mold good self-lubricating performance factors, not only make the casting speed, and due to the size of the ingot casting precision, smooth surface, uniform crystal structure, can be directly for the next working procedure of processing. This not only greatly improves the yield and reduces the loss of waste products, but also greatly improves the quality of products.
• There are two continuous casting methods: vertical continuous casting method and horizontal continuous casting method.
• Continuous casting graphite mold is also applied to the metal smelting industry, melting metal can be cast with graphite mold.Graphite molds can be reused, but some designs can only be used once. The precise and creative small grain castings can be cast directly using graphite molds.
• The coefficient of thermal expansion is an important factor in determining the use of graphite as a die material.A mold is a medium with a very heterogeneous temperature, heated from the inside by the molten material to cooled externally by the cooling process applied to it.Graphite exhibits a low coefficient of thermal expansion which enables the die to function without deformation or cracking.Another very important factor is self-lubrication.Graphite is a solid lubricant that produces low friction between the mold and the casting material. The graphite can then be smoothly extracted from the casting.
• There are many factors that determine the life of a continuously cast graphite mold. From the composition of the casting material, to the casting temperature, to the cooling rate, will affect the life of the graphite mold. The specific grade of graphite used is also determined by a number of factors. The main factor is the material process field to be used in the casting mold. For example, for gray cast iron or high nickel alloys, wear-resistant graphite is needed, while for brass, a relatively dense graphite with sufficient porosity to allow zinc to evaporate would be a better choice.
• Graphite molds designed for continuous casting need to take all of these factors into account and apply them to your specific application.Grade selection is the most important and should include input from foundry personnel, graphite manufacturers and machine factories specialized in processing graphite.Even so, when designing a new system, practical tests may be required before an actual graphite grade can be selected.
