Q1: Why do we do the Canine Progesterone Test?
This product is a diagnostic kit that can quantitatively detect the concentration of progesterone in canine serum in vitro. Progesterone, a hormone produced by the ovaries and placenta, is low in progesterone in non-pregnant dogs and rises when LH (luteinizing hormone) secretion surges, thus progesterone secretion begins before ovulation. Progesterone testing can help determine optimal breeding timing, predict delivery time, and detect reproductive disorders.
Q2. How do I prepare for a progesterone blood test?
You usually don't need any other preparations for a progesterone test. In certain cases, you may need to know the first day of your last menstrual period. Your provider will tell you if you need to stop taking any medicines before the test. But never stop taking medicine unless your provider tells you.
Q3. What can affect progesterone blood test?
Pregnancy with one or more babies. Cysts on your ovaries. A growth that causes symptoms of pregnancy. A disorder affecting your adrenal glands.
Q4. Should I test progesterone in the morning or night?
The hormonal peaks have been found to occur in the morning for progesterone, in the afternoon for FSH and LH, and during the night for estradiol. These findings are unlikely to alter the time of day we order female reproductive hormone measurements.
Q5. What time of day is progesterone highest?
The hormonal peaks have been found to occur in the morning for progesterone, in the afternoon for FSH and LH, and during the night for estradiol. These findings are unlikely to alter the time of day we order female reproductive hormone measurements.
