Mechanical Stability and Compatibility
This product is not compatible with binder resins, pigments, fillers, solvents or additives commonly used in antifouling paints. This product is easily hydrolyzed and photolyzed in dilute solution. However, tests have proven that the product can be used in waterborne antifouling coatings without any stability issues. Photolysis of this product does not normally occur in pigmented coating systems.
thermal stability
This product has good thermal stability. In dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in an open atmosphere only melting (±249º) and endothermic decomposition was observed. In the dynamic DSC run under closed conditions a large temperature rise was measured from ±230º (325 J/g), melted at the temperature rise.
shelf life
If stored at room temperature, in the original airtight container, this product technology has an initial shelf life of 5 years.
Antifouling Coating Formulation
This product is suitable for use in different types of antifouling paints, including traditional rosin-based wear-controlling polymer (CDP) coatings, as well as self-polishing copolymer (SPC) systems.
It is recommended to use this product with a soft soil agent to ensure complete protection against hard and soft soils.
Recommended use level
This product is typically used effectively in copper-free antifouling coatings at levels of 4% to 6% (wet based on total formulation). Alternatively, the product can be used in combination with copper-based biocides to reduce copper content without sacrificing performance, or to increase the performance and/or longevity of copper-based products.
advantage:
metal-free antifouling agent
• Low use concentration provides a cost-effective alternative to copper-based deodorants
• Broad spectrum control of hard fouling microorganisms
• Long-term efficacy
• Suitable for marine and freshwater environments
• Decomposes rapidly in aquatic environments
• Will not cause galvanic corrosion, especially suitable for metal enclosures including aluminum
• Provides paint formulation flexibility including brighter colors and better color retention, lower VOC and water-based paints
