Potassium chl orate is a colorless flaky crystal or white granular powder, which tastes salty and cool and is a strong oxidant. It is stable at room temperature, and decomposes and releases oxygen above 400ºC. When it is mixed with reducing agent, organic matter, flammable materials such as sulfur, phosphorus or metal powder, it can form an explosive mixture [1], which may explode when heated sharply. Therefore, potass ium chlorate is a highly sensitive explosive, and sometimes it even explodes itself under sunlight. It will explode when it meets concentrated sulfuric acid. It can react with manganese dioxide as catalyst to generate oxygen under heating conditions.
