| Definition: | Wood screws are threaded fasteners that are used to connect wood to wood. They're threaded coarsely, but not all the way up. They differ from lag screws because they thread their way through the wood as they're screwed in, whereas lag screws require you to drill a hole first. |

| Application: | How do I choose wood screws? The general rule of thumb is that the screw should enter at least half the thickness of the bottom material, the other factor is the screw's diameter, or gauge. Screws come in gauges 2 through 16. Most of the time you'll want to go with a #8 screw. |
