Description
Aluminum fluoride is an inorganic substance, chemical formula AlF  colorless or white crystal. It is insoluble in water, acid and alkali. It is stable and can be hydrolyzed when heated. Mainly used for aluminum smelting. It can be prepared by the reaction of aluminum trichloride with hydrofluoric acid and ammonia.

EINECS No.: 232-051-1 [1]
Appearance and properties: colorless or white crystal.
Melting point (ºC): 1040 [2]
Relative density (water=1): 1.91
Boiling point (ºC): 1537 [2]
Chemical formula: AlF3 [6]
Molecular weight: 83.98
Saturated vapor pressure (kPa): 0.13 (1238 ºC) [6]
Solubility: insoluble in water, acid and alkali, insoluble in most organic solvents.

It is mainly used for aluminum smelting to reduce the melting point and improve the conductivity of electrolyte. Used as an inhibitor of side fermentation in alcohol production. It is also used as a flux for ceramic glaze and enamel glaze and as a component of glaze powder. It can also be used as a flux for smelting non-ferrous metals.
