Colorless liquid. Melting point - 58.2 ºC. The boiling point is 130.6 ºC. The density is 0.9487g/cm3 (20 ºC). It is miscible with alcohol and ether. Insoluble in water. It has mint fragrance. It is easy to polymerize, especially in the presence of trace acids. It is prepared by heating adipic acid in the presence of barium hydroxide. It is used as an intermediate in medicine, perfume, synthetic rubber and pesticide.
