Glycerine, or glycerol is a simple polyol compound. It is a sweet, colorless, odorless, nontoxic and viscous liquid. It can absorb moisture from air and also can absorb hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and hydrogen cyanide. It is insoluble in benzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether and oil.
