GRS (GLOBAL Recycled Standard) is a global recycling standard, which is aimed at supply chain manufacturers' implementation of product recycling/recycled components, chain of custody control, social responsibility and environmental norms, and chemical restrictions, and is certified by a third-party certification body .
And GRS certification is specified for the needs of the textile industry, to check recycled products or some specific products, and more importantly, to let retailers and consumers know which parts of a specific product are recycled materials, and how to deal with these in the supply chain.
Material. GRS certification audit has 4 parts: social responsibility part, environmental part, chemical part, product regeneration components and supply chain requirements.
Social Responsibility Section:
1. Workers employed by enterprises involved in the production of GRS products are protected by a strong social responsibility policy.
2. The GRS Social Requirements are based on the principles of the Global Social Responsibility Compliance Program. In all cases, international labor standards, national and/or local legislation or the most stringent GRS requirements shall be applied to the extent that they do not violate applicable law.
Environmental part:
1. Enterprises participating in the production of GRS products should have a high degree of environmental protection awareness.
2. Regular monitoring/testing of wastewater generated by the factory.
3. The environmental requirements of the GRS apply to all operations within the certified organization. In all cases, the most stringent national and/or local regulations or GRS requirements apply.
Chemical part:
1. The chemicals used to produce GRS products will not cause unnecessary harm to the environment or workers.
2. GRS only applies to the use and management of chemicals in the manufacturing process of GRS products.
The standard does not apply to the entire facility, but only to the production of GRS products. GRS does not address chemicals present in the final product as it does not control any chemicals that may be present in recycled products used as initial input in the GRS production chain.
Product recycled content and supply chain requirements:
1. Applicable to products with a recycled content greater than or equal to 20%.
2. The declared recycled material shall follow a complete, verified chain of custody from input to final product.
