Function
Ivermectin may act as an agonist of the neurotransmitter gamma-tyrosine (GABA) to disrupt GABa-mediated synaptic transmission in the central nervous system, leading to nervous system paralysis and death in the worm. Although this product has no effect on adult worms, it can affect the normal development of onchocerca microfilariae in the uterus of female worms and inhibit their release from the uterus of pregnant worms. The effect of ivermectin on microfilariae is slower and longer than that of ethamazine. It can rapidly reduce the number of microfilariae in the skin of patients, but the effect on the number of microfilariae in the cornea and the anterior chamber of patients is slow, and the number of microfilariae in this area is quite slow.
