Description

Rutin, also called rutoside, quercetin-3-0-rutionside and sophorin, is the glycoside combining the flavonol quercetin and the disacchride rutinose(alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-6)-beta-alpha-glucopyranose). It is a citrus flavonoid found in a wide variety of plants including citrus fruit.
Rutin is one of the phenolic compounds found in the invasive plant species Carpobrotus edulis and contributes to the antibacterial properties of the plant.

PRODUCT FUNCTION

3) Rutin also has a role in inhibiting aldose reductase

4) Rutin is a phenolic antioxidant and has been demonstrated to scavenge superoxide radicals

5) Rutin can chelate metal ions, such as ferrous cations. Ferrous cations are involved in the so-called Fenton reaction, which generates reactive oxygen species

6) Rutin may also modulate the respiratory burst of neutrophils
