It can be prepared by the reaction between hydroiodic acid (or hydrogen iodide gas) with ammoniia or ammoniia hydroxide. It can be used in photographic chemicals and some medications. It can also be supplemented to many animal feed formulations as a dietary source of Iodine. It can be added to a release agent and being capable of increasing the throughput and success rate due to smoother bead release process, reducing damage to platinum ware due to forced bead release as well as reducing crucible cleaning requirement.
