The Good Cashmere Standard® is an initiative of the Aid by Trade Foundation. It was founded in 2019 with the aim of creating, promoting, and implementing a benchmark standard for sustainable cashmere.
The Standard incorporates the Five Freedoms as defined by the Farm Animal Welfare Council. The Good Cashmere Standard follows three main principles: promote animal welfare in cashmere production, support cashmere farmers to secure a sustainable source of income, and protect the environment.
It is not always easy to identify real cashmere yarn and fake ones. There are several tips that we can refer to identify real cashmere.
1. To touch: Cashmere fiber is very fine, so it feels very smooth and quite comfortable. Some cashmere sweaters in shopping malls feel smooth when touch, but there is still a feeling of smoothness on the finger after rubbing. That means people sprinkle talcum powder on those garments.
2. To grab: Wool is medullary and solid, while cashmere is unmyelinated, which makes it quite elastic. If you grab cashmere with your hand, you will feel as elastic as glutinous rice.
3. To release: Grab a handful of cashmere. Because cashmere is an animal protein, it is difficult to wrinkle and will immediately restore to flat after release.
4. To weigh in the hand: Weigh a cashmere sweater in the hand. If it is too light, this means the content may be discounted, or the weaving density is not tight enough. But if it is too heavy, perhaps it is mixed with wool.
5. To burn: When cashmere burns, it not only emits the scorching odor of protein and flint but also burns slowly. The ashes after burning show a powdery shape and break easily when touched. When the wool burns, it also has the odor of protein and flint, but if it is mixed with chemical fibers, it shrinks into a hard sphere shape rapidly due to combustion.
It is also suggested to dry clean the cashmere sweater and if dealt with proper hand washing is also ok. A worsted sweater is strongly suggested to be dry washed.
We generally recommend regular hand washing by immersing your garment in a solution of warm water (30ºC) and a gentle wool wash product. We supply a range of specialist cashmere care products, designed to help you maintain, store, and transport your garments in pristine condition.
When washing by hand, do not rub but instead squeeze the suds gently through the fabric. Never wring or stretch the fabric in any way. Finally, rinse several times in clean lukewarm water until the water runs clear with no trace of detergent. Some cashmere can also be washed using the handwash, delicates, or woolens cycle on your washing machine. When washing your cashmere in a machine ensure you use a specialist cashmere or delicates washing liquid. Never wash it at more than 40 degrees, and ideally less, and we suggest avoiding biological detergents. Check the garment's care label first to ensure that it is suitable for machine washing.
Do not leave your cashmere wet; dry it as soon as possible or odors may develop. Squeeze out any excess water before lifting a wet cashmere garment (or perhaps use a slow spin cycle on the machine if permitted by the care label). It may stretch if you are not careful, so take great care.
When washed, smooth your cashmere gently back into its original shape. Place it flat on a towel and allow it to dry naturally. Avoid any direct heat such as radiators or strong sunlight. Never hang cashmere on a line to dry as this will cause lines and stretch marks. And tumble dry cashmere only if the care label specifically permits this.
When your cashmere garment is dry it can be gently pressed with a cool iron to remove any creases.
Many clients focus on cashmere unit prices. However, the higher the price, the better the quality of the goods. The most important point for cashmere is quality and count
1) Different count cashmere yarn has different prices. Do many people like to ask what is your unit price for a pure cashmere basic sweater? Sorry, we need to know what count and gauge of cashmere yarn you need first. 12gg,14gg, 18gg or so on?
2) Then is about the cashmere quality. What fineness of cashmere yarn do you need? The thinner of cashmere yarn, the better quality will be. We used cashmere yarn that has less than 15.5un for fineness. Compared with 16.0um in the usual market, So our cashmere quality is much higher.
3) Brand. Why do people like to choose famous brands to purchase? Not only is the quality guaranteed, but also represents a certain position in this industry, so many people are willing to pay for the brand. We worked closely with Consinee, M.Oro Cashmere brand of cashmere in high visibility at home and abroad, but also known for its quality, but also among the best in the industry.
