Eria Jarensis or N-Phenethyl Dimethyl amine is an interesting ingredient that is tipped by many in the supplement industry as being the new replacement to DMA, AMP Citrate and many of the stronger stimulants that have since fallen by the way side. Since the ban of the stronger stimulants, Eria Jarensis Extract has come through, slowly finding its way into more and more pre-workout supplements and fat burners.
Eria Jarensis is derived from a genus of the orchid species known as Eria. There are over 500 species of Eria, which is distributed over a vast area including China, South East Asia, the Himalayas, New Guinea, Polynesia and Micronesia just to name a few.
Eria Jarensis works by promoting dopamine and noradrenaline in the body which can boost mood levels. By increasing the hormone levels of dopamine and noradrenaline this can boost concentration, focus as well as a euphoric sensation which is part of the reason it became an alternative to DMA.
As mentioned briefly above, Eria Jarensis poses stimulatory effects by increasing concentration levels, focus and alertness through regulating hormones dopamine and noradrenaline. In fact, only one article from the obscure journal Acta Chemica Scandinavica has anything to say about it. In it, 10kg of fresh plant material was able to produce 50mg of N-methyl-phenethyl amine and 5mg of N, N-dimethyl-phenethyl amine. PEA or phenylethylamine or just phenethyl amine is a well-known stimulant and psychoactive, which helps to modulate noradrenaline and dopamine release. These naturally occurring hormones help with concentration, alertness and the reward system. As such, PEA is commonly used to support mood and focus throughout the day. Moreover, Eria Jarensis has also shown to stimulate the growth of muscles.
As a source of PEA and N-phenethyl dimethyl amine, Eria Jarensis has a whole host of important functions that would be crucial for bodybuilding and training. Phenethyl amine and its derivatives can have a broad variety of functions. Besides assisting with mood and reward, PEA can also help to reduce appetite, act as bronchodilators and decrease anxiety just to name a few.
This is perhaps why it's being touted as the new DMAA, thanks to its ability to act as a potent stimulant. However, Eria Jarensis has a plethora of possible uses besides pre workouts including fat burners, fat loss proteins and daily focus enhancers.
Due to the absolute lack of human studies performed on Eria Jarensis, it's hard to say exactly how safe it is. Some supplements have put in at least 250mg per serve of Eria Jarensis Extract. Phenethylamines tends to have a short half-life in the body (~5-10 minutes). That is, it's cleared quite quickly from the body. It's unsure whether the PEA derivatives in Eria Jarensis suffer the same issue, but early anecdotal reports of supplements containing Eria Jarensis Extract have been fairly positive regarding the length of its effects. Again, due to the lack of research, it's hard to pinpoint any other safety and negative effects. As certain phenethylamine derivatives have a similar structure to amphetamines, supplements that carry Eria Jarensis might result in a false positive for amphetamines, however, at the time of writing, this is not a known issue. Regardless, to stay on the safe side, it is recommended that you avoid using any supplements containing Eria Jarensis if you are drug tested regularly. In addition, it's best not to take Eria Jarensis with any prescription drugs, as it can have interactions with certain drugs such as MAO inhibitors.
No recommended therapeutic doses exists for Eria Jarensis Extract, however as previously mentioned, certain supplements have included it to a level of 250mg per serve. Your best bet is to follow the dosage recommendations of the supplement in question.
Eria Jarensis Extract is still gaining popularity in the supplement industry. At the time of writing, only two supplements have utilised it including BPM Labs LipoRush and BPM Labs Annihilate. However, no doubt if the ingredient proves popular we can expect to see it featured in a range of other pre-workouts and fat burner supplements.
There haven't been any proven stackable ingredients to Eria Jarensis, however you could easily pair it with a protein powder or any other type of supplement really. As it is a fairly potent stimulant, it would be best to avoid having too many other stimulants or stimulant containing supplements if you're using something with Era Jarensis extract already.
