Lignin can be divided into two categories: guaiacyl lignin and guaiacyl (V)- syringyl (S) lignin. The former exists in coniferous forest and some cryptophytes, and the content is 24-34% and 15-30% respectively. The latter exists in broad-leaved forests, with a general content of 16-24%, tropical broad-leaved forests of 25-33%, some special needles of 23-32% and grasses of 17-23%.

Application:

Lignin is an extremely rich natural resource, which needs to be developed and utilized. At present, lignin in pulping waste liquor is mainly used as fuel. Lignosulfonate in sulfite pulping waste liquor can be used as adhesive, chelating agent, industrial detergent, water softener, emulsifier and emulsion stabilizer, tannin supplement, cement additive, oil drilling dispersant and soil stabilizer. In addition, vanillin and vanillic acid can also be prepared from lignosulfonic acid. Lignin from kraft pulping effluent can be used to prepare sulfur-containing aliphatic compounds, such as dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethyl sulfone and dimethyl sulfide..
