Methacrylic acid is a colorless crystal or transparent liquid with a pungent odor. It is soluble in hot water, soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Easily polymerized into water-soluble polymers. It is flammable, and may burn when exposed to high heat and open flames. It can produce toxic gases when it is decomposed by heat.
