N-Hexyl alcohol (English name n-Hexyl alcohol), also known as 1-Hexanol (1-Hexanol), n-Amyl methanol (1-Hydroxyhexane). It is a colorless and transparent liquid under pressure with special fragrance. The molecular formula is C6H14O, and the structural formula is CH3(CH2)5OH. It is flammable and can form explosive mixtures with air. It is slightly soluble in water, and can be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Toxic, but irritating to the skin and mucous membranes, the main use is as an organic solvent and organic synthesis raw materials.
A trace amount of n-hexanol or its carboxylate exists in citrus, berries, and the like. Tea leaves, geranium oil, various lavender oils, banana, apple, strawberry, violet leaf oils and other essential oils are also contained.
The main purpose
(1) It can be used as an analytical reagent, and also used in the pharmaceutical industry to prepare preservatives and sleeping pills. It is used as a solvent for dyes, various rubbers, special printing inks, oils, natural resins, etc., as a co-solvent for nitrocellulose, and in the manufacture of plasticizers, synthetic lubricants, fragrances, and medicines.
(2) n-hexanol has been widely used in the preparation of flavors 50 years ago, and it is both an ingredient and a solvent in the formulation of various flavors. Mainly used for the preparation of coconut and berry flavors. Usually, 0.22 ~ 18mg/kg is used for edible flavors. Used as soap essence, detergent essence, perfume essence, cream essence, etc.
(3) Used as solvent, preservative, and also used in organic synthesis.
(4) It can be used in the food industry for baked food, pudding and meat products.
