Overview of humidity indicator

 Nicepak manufactures a full line of Humidity Indicator Cards (HIC) which allows a low cost method of indicating humidity conditions for various types of barrier packaging, including MIL Spec (MIL-I-8835) applications. The 30%, 40%, 50% HIC cards complies with MS 20003-2. The 60% card complies with JEDEC Standard 033D. Moisture is the worst thing that can affect electronics - it can damage the way they function or lead to irreversible glitches in electronic components. Moisture also leads to other problems such as rust and accumulation of dust, which can affect the performance of electronic items.

While the problem is serious, the solution is rather simple: placing a desiccant with your electronics will protect your products against moisture. There are some crucial electronic items that are vulnerable to moisture. Keeping electronic items away from humidity and moisture can help increase their life span. Overview of oxygen indicator

The oxygen indicator uses the change of color of the indicator point on the card to intuitively indicate whether oxygen is present (with oxygen concentration greater than 0.5%) or absent (with oxygen concentration less than 0.1%) in a closed container, replacing the complicated oxygen meter detection means, and is convenient to use and reliable in performance. The oxygen indicator can be used together with deoxidizer to decide whether the sealing with oxygen scavenging is effective. The oxygen indicator is used for oxygen-free management and can detect whether the vacuum container leaks and indicate the approximate range of oxygen concentration in the nitrogen-filled packaging container. 


Performance

(1) Reversibility of change of color: According to the presence or absence of oxygen in the container, the color of the oxygen indicator can change reversibly from blue to red and from red to blue for many times. 

(2) Reaction time for change of color: When the oxygen indicator is used in combination with oxygen scavenger, the oxygen indicator turns red within 4 hours after the oxygen concentration drop to 0.1%. When oxygen enters from outside, the oxygen indicator will turn blue within 30 minutes. (Situation at 25ºC) 

(3) Indicating the range of oxygen concentration: When the oxygen concentration in the sealed container is less than 0.1%, the oxygen indicator is red; When the oxygen concentration in the sealed container is less than 0.5%, the oxygen indicator is blue;

PCB's should be vacuum packed in a width adequate desiccant and humidity indicator card.

  • PCB's should be packaged immediately after final inspection. The exposure time for the PCB prior to packaging should be minimized to eliminate the potential for moisture/volatile absorbtion as defined above.
  • Moisture Barrier bags must be hermetically heat sealed with an adequate seal width per manufacturers recommendations to ensure proper bag performance.
  • One humidity indicator card should be placed in the bag with the PCB's.
  • The HIC should be placed adjacent to the desiccant, not on top of the packet(s).
  • The amount of desiccant should provide protection for a minimum of one year.
  • Other packaging materials used in the bag will also have a moisture content. The moisture/volatile content of these materials must be considered in calculating the number of desiccant packets to be used.

Packaging & Shipping

1:Please store in a dry and cool environment, avoid direct sunlight and water.
2:Inner packing: Sealed vacuum bag+ tinplate can, outer packing: Cartons and pallets.
3:When open the packaging more than three times, please replace the desiccant.
4:Put one desiccant bag along with the HIC card inside the vacuum bag and get sealed.

R&D Strength-Lab equipments


Nicepak has in-house physic labs, chemistry labs, environmental labs to experiment different tests on moisture content & absorption capacity of desiccant absorbents, physical performances of the desiccant wrapping films and flexible packaging materials, simulated transport test, etc.

So far, we've got 10 patents and our R&D team has 3 national chemical engineers and they had been invited to amend the National Standard and Industry Standard of packaged desiccants and oxygen absorber.
