Berberine hcl is an isoquinoline alkaloid. Molecular formula [C20H18NO4]+. Also called berberine. Berberine hcl exists in many plants of 4 families and 10 genera, including Berberis. Yellow needle-like crystals. Melting point 145 ºC. Dissolved in water. Berberine hcl is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, and the solubility of its salts in water is relatively small, such as 1:500 for hydrochloride and 1:30 for sulfate. Berberine hcl has antibacterial effects on hemolytic streptococcus, staphylococcus aureus, gonococcus, and Freund, Shigella Shigella, and enhances leukocyte phagocytosis. Berberine hcl(commonly known as berberine hydrochloride) has been widely used in the treatment of gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery, etc., and Berberine hcl also has certain curative effects on tuberculosis, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis and respiratory tract infections.
