Dimethylformamide (DMF) is an organic compound. It is a colorless and transparent liquid. It
can be miscible with water and most organic solvents. Dimethylformamide is made from methyl
formate and dimethylamine. Dimethylformamide is unstable in the environment of strong base
such as sodium hydroxide or strong acid such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid (especially
at high temperature) and hydrolyzes to formic acid and dimethylamine.
