You can use both single phase and three phase Traditional three-phase generator:
three phase output is full power;
single phase output is around 1/3 of full power
Three-phase equal power generator:
three phase output is full power;
single phase is full power as well, but in order to protect alternator, we suggest to use 90% of full power
