Description
Ultrasonic cleaners are extremely effective at removing dirt and grime which would normally require tedious manual cleaning. The high frequency ultrasonic wave vibrations create microscopic bubbles that implode violently causing the cavitation which creates an intense scrubbing action on the surface of the item being cleaned. The microscopic nature of the bubbles mean even the tiniest crevices will be cleaned thoroughly. Used in a wide variety of industries and applications almost any non-porous item that can normally be immersed in water can be cleaned with these units.

These stainless steel cleaners feature a bright LED display for time and temperature and easy push-button control. Sturdy rubber feet prevent movement while in use, handles allow easy portability, and the larger sizes (6 liter and above) have external drains for easy replenishment of cleaning solutions.

At the heart of Ultrasonic Cleaning is the bubble; actually, lots of bubbles. These bubbles are created by sound waves as those waves move through water. This is known as Cavitation which is simply the formation of bubbles (a cavity) in water. If you've ever seen the foam left in water by a spinning boat propeller, then you've seen cavitation in action.

Since bubbles such as those created through Cavitation are just empty space, there's nothing to keep them open. As a result, these bubbles collapse, or implode, almost as fast as they are created. In our machines, this happens millions of times per second. This constant implosion produces tremendous vacuum energy in the form of heat and pressure. It's this combination of heat and pressure which gives Ultrasonic its cleaning capability and power.

Why is Ultrasonic Cleaning so Efficient and Effective?

When cavitation happens near a dirty object, the vacuum action produced by those million of bubbles constantly imploding creates a tiny pressure wave that reaches deep into every nook and cranny of even the most delicate items. This tiny pressure wave dislodges and breaks up the dirt and other contaminants and gently lifts it away. The result is very fast and effective cleaning.

How Ultrasonic Machines Create Cavitation:

To create cavitation, Ultrasonic Cleaning Systems use our state-of-the-art Prowave™ Digital Generators to power electro-mechanical transducers that are submerged in a tank of water. These generators activate the transducers which then vibrate very quickly. This vibration sends sound waves through the water at frequencies ranging from 25 to 40kHz which produces cavitation.

The different ultrasonic frequencies:

25 KHz - The most powerful frequency to remove strong pollution. Do NOT use on mirror polish surfaces and sensitive materials like glass, aluminum...
40 KHz - Standard frequency which can be compatible on a wide range of material and for removing a lot of pollution.
80 kHz - This frequency is used to clean parts with complex geometry. Cavitation bubbles can go into small holes to remove the pollution.
120 kHz and Megasonic - Main application in precision optics to clean very sensitive parts like wafers. The power of cavitation is low so these frequencies are used on clean parts to remove dust in final cleaning.
(80 kHz and above are only available on special request orders)

Application:
Ultrasonic cleaning using aqueous fluids is often used for final cleaning of precision components. It is gentle but very invasive and therefore good on intricate parts such as watches, valves, medical instruments and implants, circuit boards etc.

Ultrasonic action with water and detergants is suitable for most materials the exception being very soft metals i.e pure aluminium or very thin soft metals. The Ultrasonic action of cavitation will dent or erode these materials. If in doubt request cleaning trials first. For parts contaminated with thick grease etc a pre-wash is recommended before finally finishing with ultrasonic cleaning.

In some instances cylinder heads, injection moulding/plastic extrusion dies with burnt on residue can very effectively be cleaned with ultrasonic action and the correct combination of detergent.
