Description

1: Brief Introduction Of 6061 aluminum alloy

The 6061 aluminum plate is an alloy that has been made with silicon and magnesium. It is a readily machinable, weldable
and formable grade of aluminum. It is the highest in its class of heat treated aluminums when it comes to corrosion
resistance. This allows it to be used in heavy duty structures and marine environments. This product has a protective
surface film that helps keep it from corroding. For further corrosion resistance, other coatings can be applied or anodizing
can be performed. The electrical conductivity of this metal is 40 percent of copper. It is frequently used in the electrical field
in the form of electrical fittings and connectors. Other applications for 6061 aluminum grades include marine fittings,
marine components, fasteners, truck components, hinge pins, magneto parts, frames and structural components. It has a
good weight-to-strength ratio, making it ideal for heavy duty structures.
The welding capability of this product is great, allowing any method of welding to be used. Annealing can be performed,
which will put it in a state to be easily cold worked. Any methods of cold working can be used for stamping, drilling,
bending, deep drawing, tapping and cutting. When annealing this metal, it's recommended that it be placed in 775 degrees
F for between two and three hours, followed by a steady drop in the temperature by 50 degrees each hour, until it is down
to 500 degrees F. Air cooling should be allowed afterward. Other methods of heat treatment that can be used include
solution heat treating, aging precipitation heat treating and hot working.

2:Chemical Composition

The aluminum industry has created a system using a four-digit numerical designation to identify wrought aluminum alloys.
The first digit indicates the major alloying element.  The second digit indicates whether there was a modification in the basic
alloy.  The third and fourth digit indicates the specific alloy.  The following represent the various groups:
1XXXAluminum 99% or greater
2XXXCopper - major alloying element
3XXXManganese - major alloying element
5XXXMagnesium - major alloying element
6XXXMagnesium and silicon - major alloying elements
7XXXZinc -major alloying element
