The Solna F400 are combination jaw folders intended for high quality folding. The F400 is best suited for semi-commercial and newspaper work. The Solna F400 folder is designed to be combined with a Solna Distributor 300, a Solna Commercial 300 and Solna Print System 600. It has a capacity for up to 8 webs in one section with a tabloid cross fold. The F400 also has provision for an additional length fold (quarter fold), a double parallel cross fold and a Swiss postal fold across the quar- ter fold.
The F400 belongs to the category of fixed size, single cut-off jaw folders with a conventionally positioned former. This folders are available in cut-offs 578 mm (22 3/4 "), size B, and 630 mm (24 13/16"), size D. The basic folder will give a single cross fold after the former length fold to produce a broadsheet or tabloid product. With the optional double parallel cylinder mechanism, the signature may be given a second cross fold. The Quarter Fold mechanism, which is standard on the optional on the F400, can be used to make a second length fold. All products exit on the same delivery belt which lies at right angles to the press line.
The drawing below shows a top view of an F400 folder. The printing units are normally found on the left side of the former, the unit side. (With optional arrangements, printing units may also be found on the right side.) The back side of the folder is also named the drive side of the press as the main drive shaft or the separate printing unit driving motors are situated on this side. The delivery side is the front side of the folder towards the Press Console.
