Description
Expanded Metal Mesh

Expanded metal is made by feeding sheets or coils into an expanding machine, equipped with a 'knife' designed to cut it to produce a particular mesh pattern. It's sheared and stretched in a single process, then cut into sheets or wound onto coils for transportation.
Expanded metal is extremely versatile, and suitable for a wide range of different applications. It can be used to make security screens, balustrade infill panels, reinforce brickwork or make walkways, for instance.
In architecture, it's often used as cladding facades in the construction of bridges, ornamental features and art displays. Industrial applications include exhibition stands, window guards, cages, shelving and expanded metal flooring.
In the automobile industry it is used as car grilles, radiator grilles and as filtration systems. Where security is important, security lathing can be fixed to block work, studded partitions or joists to prevent or restrict entry. In fencing applications, it is often used when erecting scaling barriers. Some domestic applications include indoor and outdoor furniture, ceiling tiles and more.

Expanded Metal Mesh Types

Micromesh Expanded Metal
Micro-expanded metal is suitable for use of filters as well as other applications, and can be considered a particular type of expanded metal from which it differs due to its small mesh size.
Rhomboidal Mesh or Diamond Mesh
Rhomboidal expanded metal is the most commonly used type. Its particular shape allows for a good passage of air and light, and provides an attractive aesthetic appearance.
Round Mesh
Round expanded metal is a valid alternative to perforated metal, with the advantage of not having production waste.
Square Mesh
Square expanded metal is a type of mesh where the long diagonal is very similar to the short diagonal.
Hexagonal Mesh
Particularly suitable for walkways or where strength is a must.
Heavy Mesh
A particular type of reinforced expanded metal suitable for all heavy-duty applications.

Expanded Metal Mesh Raw Materials

Aluminium-Raised

Aluminium raised mesh, worked from one sheet of metal. Strands are measured from knuckle to knuckle rather than inside the diamond. The strands and bonds are set at a uniform angle to the plane of the sheet, adding strength and rigidity, allowing air circulation and distributing the load of the metal to the supporting frames.
Aluminium raised mesh is used in the following industries:
Manufacturing & construction
Automotive & transportation
Design & DIY

Aluminium raised mesh is used in the following applications:
Radiator grilles
Car body repairs
Arts & crafts

Aluminium-Flattened

Flattened expanded aluminium mesh which has been worked from one sheet of metal and pressure rolled. By flattening the sheets, the bonds and strands are turned down to produce a smooth and flat surface and resulting in strands which are on the same plane as the sheet.
Aluminium flattened mesh is used in the following industries:
Manufacturing & construction
Automotive & transport
Design & DIY
Aluminium flattened mesh typical applications include:
Bird guards
Gutter guards
Greenhouse staging

Mild Steel-Raised

Mild steel raised mesh strands are measured from knuckle to knuckle rather than inside the diamond. The strands and bonds are set at a uniform angle to the plane of the sheet, adding strength and rigidity, allowing air circulation and distributing the load of the metal to the supporting frames.
