Making it's debut in the early 2000's it has quickly rose to power and will soon be the dominant refrigerant in the automotive industry. Today, as I write this in October of 2017 there are approximately thirty-five million cars on the road that are using 1234yf. This number will only grow as R-134a is no longer allowed on newer models in the European Union and will be banned from newer models in the United States by 2020. (2021 model year.)
With this refrigerant being in such high demand I have found very little information about it. There seemed to be a scattering and mix of data from various websites across the internet. My goal here with this post is to give the most comprehensive and complete guide to all of the facts, questions, and points of note on 1234yf.

R1234yf is a colorless HFO refrigerant gas also called 2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropylene.
It is called the future of refrigerant gas because of having an extremely lower greenhouse gas damaging effect.
Its GWP rating is around one or less than that. R-1234yt or HFO-1234yf refrigerant is a hydro gen, fluo rine, and carbon structure with one double tie of carbon atoms.
This synthetic HFO-1234yf refrigerant gas has nearly the same physical and thermal properties value as R134a refrigerant except for minor differences.
Application:
The new R1234yf refrigerant is designed as a choice for R134a. It has an A2L mild flammability rating.
This non-toxic refrigerant gas is very environmentally friendly. R-1234yf refrigerant has high efficient heat removal characteristics more than R134a.
As R134a refrigerant gas wasn't designed for flammable refrigerant, the HFO-1234yf is a perfect choice.
R-134a refrigerant was a popular alternative for R-22, but because of its extremely high GWP R134a, it will be banned soon, and the new alternative is R1234yt refrigerant.
Though it is comparatively new, HFO-1234yf has no dangerous substance that damages greenhouse gas and has lower than 1 GWP, while R134a had 1300 GWP.
But HFO -1234yf has similar properties to R134a, and both use SAE J2842 evaporator.
