What Is SHIKONIN(AS)?
Purple flake crystalline or crystalline powder, melting point 147ºC ~ 149ºC, [α]D20: +138°(benzene). Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol, organic solvents and vegetable oils. Soluble in alkali water, acid and precipitate. The main components of shikotin, β-hydroxyisovalyl shikotin, shikoquinone, shikothane and so on. Deoxyshitin, β-dimethylphthalide, isobutylphthalide, shitin, methylshitin, β-sitosterol and caffeic acid fatty alcohol ester; Advanced fatty acid esters of Comfrey A, Comfrey B and caffeic acid.

Application Of Butyl stearate
As food colorant, Chinese regulations can be used for fruit juice (flavor) beverage, fruit wine, ice cream and Popsicle, the maximum usage is 0.1g/kg.
Uses edible purple pigment. For coloring of spicy meat and poultry cans, dosage 0.35 ~ 0.56g/kg. Crushed comfrey can be placed in a fine sieve, with 160 ~ 170ºC hot oil poured on it, so that the pigment dissolved in the oil. The oil is drained through a fine sieve, mixed with the paprika in the container, thoroughly stirred and boiled to make a mixed sauce for use.
