Description

Rib lath
is a kind of metal lath used extensively in the construction industry. It consists of metal strips arranged into a mesh, with additional longitudinal ribs for enhanced mechanical keying. Rib lath provides a sturdy base for plastering or rendering on masonry or poured concrete. Its primary functions are to reinforce, provide formwork support, and maintain the structural integrity of building structures. Rib lath aids in preventing wall cracking and peeling, enhances the adhesion of plaster, and helps maintain the structure's shape and stability.

Reinforcement: Rib lath effectively enhances the strength of concrete or brick walls by providing a robust, meshed structure. This design helps prevent the wall from cracking or collapsing due to pressure or environmental factors. Its presence gives concrete increased structural integrity and longevity.

Formwork Support: During the construction process, rib lath serves as a temporary formwork, supporting the concrete to maintain its shape before it solidifies. This means that workers can control the shape and size of the concrete more precisely, reducing waste and the need for remedial errors.

Maintain Structural Integrity: The meshed structure of the rib lath provides even pressure distribution, aiding in maintaining the overall structural integrity. This means that the building can better resist environmental and physical stresses, reducing potential structural problems over the long term.

Prevent Wall Cracking and Peeling: Rib lath helps prevent shear stress between concrete and the plaster layer, a common cause of wall cracking and peeling. By providing a robust surface that can distribute these stresses, rib lath can significantly reduce the occurrence of this issue.

Enhancing Plaster Adhesion: Rib lath enhances the adhesion of plaster through its unique ribbed design. The ribs provide
additional surface area, making it easier for the plaster to distribute evenly and adhere firmly to the wall.

Maintain Shape and Stability of Structure: Lastly, Rib lath aids in maintaining the shape and stability of the building. This is because it provides an even support structure that can effectively resist external forces like wind and earthquakes on the building, causing destabilizing effects.

HI-RIB Mesh(High rib)/Expanded Rib Lath(direct factory)

Widely used as a plaster backing on ceilings, walls and stud partitions. Rib mesh is also
ideal for refurbishing damaged or aged masonry walls when a key for rendering is not
certain due to disintegration or softening of the wall face.

Product Description

Galvanized rib lath is manufactured to BSEN 10327-DX51D+275. It is a re-enforcing mesh with rigid ribs running along the length of the sheet. It is used as a key for plaster and render applications although it differs from the normal mesh because of the ribs it can accommodate a deeper two coat render application. It can also be used for partition walls and ceilings. Can generally fixed through the rib with a nail or through the sheet with a staple or tying wire.
Rib lath is used in applications related to structural work, concreting, projecting insulation, or metal/wooden frame coating.
Rib lath ensures flatness, rigidity, good adhesion and is suitable for major construction work such as reinforcement , formwork for foundations , slabs , walls, seals and other uses.

Applications
High rib lath has excellent engineering quality and construction security. It is widely used in construction reinforcement of tunnels bridges, valve basement systems, sewage systems, subways, retaining walls, nuclear power plants, shipyards, water pools and marine engineering works and high rise building projects and non-regular or bending pattern as concrete permanent assembly-free formwork lath.

Function
1.Construction formwork mesh has very good engineering quality and construction security;
2.Construction formwork mesh as the concrete permanent assembly,free sheet is much convenient for engineering design and processing;
3.Construction formwork mesh is widely used in tunnels,bridgesand so on to make the process of construction much more fast and stable.
4. Because it's the U patterns, the formwork has more capability form stress.

Installation:

Fixing of lath should follow BS EN 13914- 1:2005 Internal Plastering and BS EN 13914- 2:2005 External Rendering.
The apex of rib lath should always be in contact with the fixing background.

Fixing to metal or timber supports:
Timber: Use 38 x 7mm plasterer's nails or 32 x 2mm staples to fix with ribs running at 90° to timber studs which should be at a maximum 600mm centres.
Metal: Use 1.63mm or two strands of 1.22mm galvanised mild steel wire to tie around the rib where it crosses each steel stud.
Steel studs should be at maximum 600mm centres. To join sheets of Rib Lath, the edge ribs should be overlapped and the edges tied at 150mm centres with 1.22mm tying wire.
Where the ends of the lathing finish in front of a support, overlap by 50mm, otherwise sheets should be overlapped by 100mm with two 1.63mm ties used with each overlapping rib.
Fixing to solid backgrounds: The ribs of the lath should be held firmly against the background by the use of fixings placed at 600 mm centres.
End edges should be overlapped by 50mm, side edges by 25mm and tied or screwed at 150mm centres.
