A nail with a large cap and a short needle, used to nail paper or cloth onto a wooden board or wall as a daily necessities.

American style push pins (map pins or push pins) are also a common type of push pin, with a clear handle at the top. This design ensures that the handle remains protruding when fixing files, making it easy to quickly remove.
Additionally, due to the obvious handle, this type of pushpin is often used specifically to indicate specific locations on maps.

 

Most people are able to nail thumbnails in specific positions with their bare hands, related to the larger circular cap and tip on top.
