Side-by-side fiber is a composite fiber with two component polymers on both sides of the fiber, also known as bilateral structure and half-moon fiber, and the two components can be equal or not equal.
In order to prevent the interface stripping of the two component polymer and improve the fiber performance, the two component polymers with different properties are mostly the same type of polymer to increase the compatibility of the two component polymers between the interface. The two polymers are distributed in parallel along the radial direction on the cross section of the fiber. Due to the asymmetric distribution of the two components, the spun fiber has a contraction difference after stretching and heat treatment, so that the fiber has a spiral curl.
