Product Description

What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is a high purity 32.5% urea solution used by some diesel engines with Selective Catalytic Reduction to decrease nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. Specifically, the amount of nitric oxides in the emission can be reduced by 85%.
AdBlue is a trade name registered by the German Association of the Automobile Industry (VDA) and also known as DEF (Diesel exhaust fluid).
Adblue is neither fuel nor fuel additive. The way of filling AdBlue is similar to that of diesel/gasoline filling. If you spill the AdBlue on your hand, simply wash it with water.
Why is AdBlue important?
Environmental standards are increasingly stricter for automotive manufacturers due to environmental problems. Euro 6 emissions standards came into effect in  2016 and greatly affect diesel engines. To comply with the new regulations, automotive manufacturers have to focus on reducing harmful nitrogen-oxide emissions.
The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology is an effective method of getting a diesel engine to meet the Euro 6 standard. It is used by many automotive manufacturers: Audi, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes. The SCR system injects a small amount of Urea solution (AdBlue) into the vehicle exhaust. Mercedes BlueTEC and Citroen BlueHDi all feature SCR technology in combination with AdBlue.
How does AdBlue work?
AdBlue is a colorless, non-toxic solution with 2 main ingredients: distilled water and urea. To meet Euro 6 standard, diesel-powered cars use SCR technology to inject this compound into the vehicle's exhaust system. Urea solution combined with exhaust gas produces nitrogen and oxygen, which is harmless to the environment by decomposing nitrogen oxides (the main pollutant components of diesel engines).
This technology has been used in buses and heavy trucks for a long time, so its effectiveness has been proven.
Does your vehicle use AdBlue?
SCR technology with AdBlue may be still unfamiliar to some users. If your recently imported vehicle meets US or European standards, it has strong possibility of using AdBlue technolòy already. Many users do not know this until a warning light appeared on the panel notifying that AdBlue needs adding because the SCR system has no effect on the operation of the vehicle and there is no indicator of the remaining level of AdBlue.
If you don't know if your vehicle uses AdBlue or not, you can check it out in the vehicle manufacturer's manual and find the location of the AdBlue cap - if it is not mentioned, it is possible that your vehicle does not use SCR. Normally, the Adblue filler cap is either next to the fuel filler, in the boot or under the bonnet.
Should AdBlue be stored in the trunk?
You might think you should store the AdBlue in the trunk? However, the automative and AdBlue manufacturers discourage you from doing so because possible spills may affect your vehicle. In ađition, if the residual amount of AdBlue in the bottle when exposed to harmful substances in the air, the properties of AdBlue can change.
