Graphite electrode, mainly petroleum coke, needle coke as raw material, coal pitch as binder, calcination, ingredients, kneading,molding, baking and graphitization, machining and made, which is released in electric arc furnace in the form of arc conductor of electricity to heat melting furnace charge, with low resistivity, good conductivity, low ash, uniform and compact structure, good oxidation resistance, high mechanical strength, etc.
Graphite electrodes are easier to process and have a significantly faster processing speed than copper electrodes. Similarly, if high-speed graphite machining centers are used to manufacture electrodes, the speed will be faster, the efficiency will be higher, and there will be no dust problem. In these machining processes, selecting tools with appropriate hardness and graphite can reduce tool wear and copper electrode damage. In general, discharge machining using graphite electrodes is 58% faster than using copper electrodes. In this way, the processing time is significantly reduced, while also reducing manufacturing costs.
Machine Program
1) Immerse graphite in oil. Before mechanical processing, graphite materials should be immersed in engine oil for dozens of hours to allow oil to penetrate into the graphite material, so that the ash powder does not fly during mechanical processing and a smoother surface can be obtained.
2) Paint marking. After rough machining of the outer surface of the electrode, a thin layer of white paint is sprayed on the marking surface before marking, so that the lines are clear and convenient for mechanical processing.
3) Perform mechanical processing.
Application
(1) For electric arc steelmaking furnaces
The production of electric furnace steel in China accounts for about 18% of the crude steel production, and graphite electrodes used for steelmaking account for 70% to 80% of the total consumption of graphite electrodes.
(2) Used for submerged arc furnaces
The submerged arc furnace is mainly used for the production of industrial silicon and yellow phosphorus. For each ton of silicon produced, approximately 100kg of graphite electrodes are consumed, while for each ton of yellow phosphorus produced, approximately 40kg of graphite electrodes are consumed.
(3) For resistance furnaces
The graphitization furnace for producing graphite products, the furnace for melting glass, and the electric furnace for producing silicon carbide all belong to resistance furnaces. The materials inside the furnace are both heating resistors and heated objects
(4) Used for preparing irregular graphite products
The blank of graphite electrodes is also used for processing into various special-shaped graphite products such as crucibles, molds, vessels, and heating elements. For example, in the quartz glass industry, for every 1 ton of electric fusion tube produced, 10 tons of graphite electrode blanks are required; 100k of graphite electrode blank is required for each ton of quartz brick produced
Production characteristics
(1) Long production cycle. The production cycle of ordinary power graphite electrodes is about 45 days, and the production cycle of ultra-high power graphite electrodes is over 70 days, while the production cycle of graphite electrode joints that require multiple impregnations is longer.
(2) High energy consumption. Producing 1 ton of ordinary power graphite electrodes requires approximately 6000 kW · h of electrical energy, thousands of cubic meters of gas or natural gas, and approximately 1 ton of metallurgical coke particles and powder.
(3) There are many production processes. The production process includes raw material calcination, crushing and grinding, batching, kneading, forming, roasting, impregnation, graphitization, and mechanical processing.
(4) A certain amount of dust and harmful gases are generated during the production process, and it is necessary to take comprehensive ventilation and dust reduction measures as well as environmental protection measures to eliminate harmful gases.
(5) The needle coke, modified electrode asphalt, and low quinoline insoluble content special impregnating agent asphalt used in the production of high-power and ultra-high-power graphite electrodes urgently require attention and active cooperation from China's petroleum and coal chemical processing enterprises.
