ASTM B465-2020Standard Standard Specification for Copper-Iron Alloy Plate, Sheet, Strip, and Rolled Bar
This specification establishes the requirements for plates, sheets, strips, and rolled bars of copper-iron alloys with Copper Alloy UNS Nos. C19200, C19210, C19400, C19500, C19700, and C19720. The material for manufacture shall be a cast bar, cake, or slab and so forth of such purity and soundness as to be suitable for processing by hot working, cold working, and annealing to produce a uniform wrought structure in the finished product. Tempers shall be available in the following: O60 (soft annealed), O61 (annealed), O50 (light annealed), O82 (annealed to temper, ½ hard), H01 (¼ hard), H02 (½ hard), H03 (¾ hard), H04 (hard), H06 (extra hard), HR02 (½ hard), HR04 (hard), H08 (spring), H10 (extra spring), and H14 (super spring). Products shall be tested and shall adhere to dimensional (mass, thickness, length, width, straightness, and edge), mechanical (tensile strength, and Rockwell hardness), electrical (resistivity and equivalent conductivity), chemical composition, and grain size requirements.
MATERIALS: C34500, also known as Leaded Low Brass, is composed of 63% copper (Cu) and 35% zinc (Zn) with an added 2% lead (Pb). It exhibits excellent formability, corrosion resistance, and electrical conductivity. This material possesses good machinability and is commonly used in electrical connectors, plumbing fittings, and components requiring intricate shapes.
C19200, known as Cartridge Brass, is a copper-zinc alloy comprising approximately 90% copper (Cu) and 10% zinc (Zn). This material displays high ductility, good corrosion resistance, and excellent cold workability. Its mechanical properties make it suitable for applications like boiler tubes, condenser plates, and electrical connectors.
C19210, also called Sterlite Brass, is a copper-zinc-tin alloy with its composition comprising around 95% copper (Cu), 4% zinc (Zn), and 1% tin (Sn). It demonstrates high strength, good corrosion resistance, and exceptional resistance to stress relaxation. This material is commonly used in spring contacts, electrical connectors, and fasteners.
C19400, known as Strip Brass, is a copper-zinc alloy consisting of approximately 85% copper (Cu) and 15% zinc (Zn). It offers excellent cold workability, good tensile strength, and corrosion resistance. Due to these properties, C19400 is utilized in radiator fins, decorative trim, and heat exchanger tube supports.
C19500, also called Lead-Free Strip Brass, is composed of 96% copper (Cu), 3% iron (Fe), and 1% zinc (Zn). This alloy exhibits high strength, electrical conductivity, and excellent resistance to corrosion. Its mechanical properties allow for its application in electrical connectors, battery components, and terminals where lead-free materials are required.
C19700, known as Beryllium Copper, is a copper alloy that contains around 98% copper (Cu) and 2% beryllium (Be). It possesses exceptional strength, hardness, and electrical conductivity. This material is primarily used in electrical springs, switches, and connectors due to its superior performance in high-stress environments.
C19720, also called Beryllium-Free Copper, is a copper-silicon-tin-phosphorus alloy with its composition comprising approximately 95% copper (Cu), 2% silicon (Si), 2% tin (Sn), and 1% phosphorus (P). It displays excellent electrical conductivity, high thermal conductivity, and good strength.
