ASTM B140Standard Specification for Copper-Zinc-Lead (Red Brass or Hardware Bronze) Rod, Bar, and Shapes
This specification establishes the requirements for copper-zinc-lead (leaded red brass or hardware bronze) rods, bars, and shapes of UNS Alloy Nos. C31400, C31600, and C32000 used for screw machine applications. Tempers available to this specification are O60 (soft anneal), H02 (half-hard), and H04 (hard). Materials for manufacture shall be cast billets, logs, or rods of such purity and soundness as to be suitable for processing by hot working, cold-working, straightening, and annealing to produce a uniform wrought structure in the finished product. Tempers available under this specification are O60 (soft anneal), H02 (half-hard), and H04 (hard). Products shall be tested and conform to dimensional (mass, diameter, length, straightness, and shape), mechanical (tensile and yield strength, and elongation), and chemical composition requirements.
MATERIALSC51000: C51000, also known as phosphor bronze, is composed of copper (90%), tin (8%), and phosphorus (2%). It exhibits excellent corrosion resistance and high electrical conductivity. With good strength and wear resistance, C51000 finds its application in electrical connectors, springs, and contact springs in various industries. Its exceptional formability allows it to be easily machined and formed into desired shapes.
C52100: C52100, referred to as phosphor bronze as well, consists of copper (97.5%), tin (2%), and phosphorus (0.5%). This alloy offers excellent strength, electrical conductivity, and fatigue resistance. It finds use in applications such as electrical connectors, switches, and springs. C52100 is known for its good combination of electrical and thermal conductivity, making it suitable for electrical components requiring both qualities.
C52400: C52400, or phosphor bronze (extra hard), is composed of copper (92%), tin (6.5%), and phosphorus (1.5%). It offers high mechanical strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for demanding applications like valve stems, gears, and fasteners. C52400 exhibits good machinability, low coefficient of friction, and excellent dimensional stability, making it a preferred material in the manufacturing industry.
C53400: C53400, or beryllium copper, is an alloy with copper (97%), beryllium (1.9-2.2%), and other elements. It possesses exceptional strength, conductivity, and thermal properties, along with good corrosion resistance. C53400 finds application in electrical connectors, springs, and switches requiring high durability. Its advantages lie in its non-sparking characteristic, which makes it suitable for use in explosive environments.
C54400: C54400, or phosphor bronze (8% tin), consists of copper (92%) and tin (8%). It possesses high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good electrical conductivity. C54400 finds applications in marine hardware, fasteners, and electrical connectors. With its reliable mechanical properties and resistance to wear, C54400 is a preferred choice for components subject to heavy loads and marine environments.Copper Profiles
