FAQ
The main points of structural design of DC motors are different from AC motors
Determination of the position of the commutator
In medium and large DC motors, when determining the extension size of the armature winding end or the position of the commutator, the axial extension of the compensation winding should also be considered. Because the ends of the compensation windings are often very long, if the axial dimension of the rotor is not lengthened accordingly, the determined position of the commutator will not be appropriate.
When choosing a commutator diameter, it is generally always as small as possible. This is more economical, and the friction losses of the brushes are also small. However, when the diameter is small, when the ratio of the brush width to the sheet width is constant, the width of the commutator segment and the width of the brush will decrease. If the diameter is too small, the strength will not be enough. All parts of the commutator should generally be mechanically calculated.
In the case of end cap bearings, the inner cavity of the commutator sleeve should have air passages of sufficient size to facilitate ventilation. In the large motor with seat type bearing, in order to facilitate the maintenance of the brush device, the motor should be sunk a little in the foundation.
