Potassium-hydroxide (chemical formula: KOH), commonly known as caustic potassium, is a white solid that is soluble in water and alcohol, but not in ether. It is highly susceptible to moisture absorption and deliquescence in the air. It can react with carbon dioxide to generate potassium carbonate. So it will be used for absorbing carbon dioxide.

Potassium-hydroxide (chemical formula: KOH, formula quantity: 56.11) is a white powder or flaky solid. Melting point 360~406 ºC, boiling point 1320~1324 ºC, relative density 2.044g/cm, flash point 52 ° F, refractive index n20/D1.421, vapor pressure 1mm Hg (719 ºC). Has strong alkalinity and corrosiveness. It easily absorbs moisture from the air and deliquests, absorbing carbon dioxide to form potassium carbonate. Dissolve in approximately 0.6 parts hot water, 0.9 parts cold water, 3 parts ethanol, and 2.5 parts glycerol. When dissolved in water, alcohol, or treated with acid, a large amount of heat is generated. The pH of 0.1mol/L solution is 13.5. Moderately toxic, with a median lethal dose (rat, oral) of 1230mg/kg. Soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in ether. It has extremely strong alkalinity and corrosiveness.
