Introduction:

The chemical formula is Eu2O3. The molecular weight is 351.92. Light rose red powder, hygroscopic, and slightly different colors due to different preparation methods. With the different heating temperature, two variants of pseudo triagonal system and equiaxed system can be obtained. The crystal structure of the latter is the same as that of scandium oxide. The relative density is 7.42 and the melting point is 2330 ºC. It is insoluble in water and can be dissolved in inorganic acid to form trivalent europium salt solution of corresponding acid. It is also soluble in formic acid and acetic acid, and can absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form carbonate. The main uses of europium oxide are as red phosphor activator for color TV, phosphor for high-pressure lamp, stimulated emission phosphor for new X-ray medical diagnosis system, etc. Europium oxide can also be used to manufacture colored lenses and optical filters, magnetic bubble storage devices, nuclear reactor control rods, shielding materials and structural materials. Preparation method: oxalate and nitrate can be decomposed at a lower temperature. Europium oxide toxicity: the salt of rare earth element in rare earth oxide can reduce the content of blood enzyme, inactivate it, inhibit the production of thromboplastin, precipitate fibrinogen, and catalyze the decomposition of phosphate compounds. The toxicity of rare earth elements decreases with the increase of atomic weight. Wear a gas mask when working. If there is radioactivity, special protection shall be taken.
