Physical and Chemical Properties:
Methyl acetate, also known as MeOAc, acetic acid methyl ester or methyl ethanoate, is a carboxylate ester with the formula CH3COOCH3. It is a flammable liquid with a characteristically pleasant smell reminiscent of some glues and nail polish removers. Methyl acetate is occasionally used as a solvent, being weakly polar and lipophilic, but its close relative ethyl acetate is a more common solvent being less toxic and less soluble in water. Methyl acetate has a solubility of 25% in water at room temperature. At elevated temperature its solubility in water is much higher. Methyl acetate is not stable in the presence of strong aqueous bases or aqueous acids. Methyl acetate is not considered as a VOC in the USA.

Application:
1. Methyl Acetate is used in the manufacturing of artificial leather and spices, as well as as as as an extractant for fats and oils. Methyl acetate is also a chemical raw material for the production of dyes and drugs.

2. Methyl Acetate is a fast drying solvent for nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, as well as an extractant for fats and oils.

3. Methyl Acetate is used as chemical solvent, essence, reagent, paint spraying, artificial leather production, etc.

Storage:
 It has a specific gravity of 0.933 and a flash point of -8° C (closed cup) and is highly flammable.  It should therefore be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area that is free from the risk of ignition.  For transportation purposes, it is classified as packing group II and hazard class 3 and it is an irritant.
