Description
Praziquantel Tablets
Main composition: Praziquantel
Character: white tablets
pharmacologic action:
Pharmacodynamics: Praziquantel has broad spectrum anti - schistosoma and anti - tapeworm action. It is highly active against adult tapeworms of all kinds, and it also has good activity against larvae: it has good repellent effect on schistosoma. Praziquantel for tapeworm mechanism has not yet been determined accurately, may be its interaction with the worm capsule lecithin, as a result, sodium, potassium, and calcium ions. In vitro, low concentrations of praziquantel appear to impair the function of the sucker and stimulate the peristalsis of the tapeworm, while higher concentrations of praziquantel can enhance the contraction of the tapeworm chain (node chain) (irreversible contraction at very high concentrations). In addition, praziquantel can cause the formation of focal vacuoles in special parts of the tapeworm envelope, and then the worm body lysis. In the case of schistosoma and trematodes, praziquantel may directly kill the parasite by increasing the flow of calcium into the body, followed by the formation of focal vacuoles and phagocytosis
Pharmacokinetics:
This product is quickly and almost completely absorbed when taken internally, but has a significant first-pass effect. In dogs and sheep, the peak concentration was reached at 0.5~2 hours and 2 hours, respectively. The blood concentration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection is maintained longer than that of internal administration. Praziquantel is distributed in various tissues throughout the body, among which liver and kidney are the highest, and can cross the blood-brain barrier into the central nervous system. This widespread feature facilitates the expulsion of juveniles from various host organs (muscle, brain, viscera, and abdominal cavity). Praziquantel entering the body is rapidly metabolized by the liver to inactive monohydroxylated or polyhydroxylated metabolites, which are excreted mainly in the urine. The elimination half-life of the drug administered internally was 7.7 hours for cattle, 1.1 to 2.5 hours for sheep and pigs, and 3 to 3.5 hours for dogs. Only very little of the original drug (0.1% in sheep) was excreted in urine or feces

drug interactions: When combined with albendazole and dexamethason , praziquantel can reduce the plasma concentration.
Indication: An anti-worm drug. It is mainly used in animal schistosomiasis, but also in taeniasis and cysticercosis.
