Ammonium carbonate, chemical formula (NH4) 2CO3. Colorless cubic crystals, often containing 1 molecule of crystalline water; Easy to dissolve in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline. Insoluble in ethanol, carbon disulfide, and concentrated ammonia water. Unstable in the air, it gradually turns into ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium carbamate. Dry materials are easily decomposed at 58 ºC, releasing ammonia and carbon dioxide. At 70 ºC, the aqueous solution begins to decompose. Unstable to both light and heat. Slightly hygroscopic.
