Description
  Titanium dioxide
Titanium dioxide, also known as titanium dioxide (chemical formula: Tio2), is an amphoteric oxide of white solid or powder with a molecular weight of 79.9. It is a white inorganic pigment which has no physiological toxicity and is insoluble in water and acid. It has excellent opacity, whiteness and gloss, as well as strong weather resistance, heat resistance, light resistance, pulverization resistance and sedimentation resistance, and is considered to be a white pigment with excellent performance in the world at present.

The chemical stability of titanium dioxide is very strong, and it has always been white powder, so it will not react with any substance under normal circumstances. Widely used in coatings, plastics, paper making, printing ink, chemical fiber, rubber, cosmetics, etc., its melting point is very high, and plastic coupling is often used to manufacture high-temperature resistant experimental utensils such as fire glass, glaze and enamel.

The physical properties of titanium dioxide are also excellent. Its relative density is the smallest among commonly used white pigments. In a white pigment with the same quality, the larger the surface area of titanium dioxide, the higher the volume of the pigment. Its dielectric constant is also high, so it has good electrical properties.

It also has the performance of electrical conductor, its electrical conductor increases with the increase of temperature, and it is also very sensitive to hypoxia. If the hardness of titanium dioxide is based on the model hardness scale, the hardness of rutile titanium dioxide is 6-6.5 and that of anatase titanium dioxide is 5.5-6.0, so anatase titanium dioxide is usually used in chemical fiber coolies.

Because anatase titanium dioxide will be transformed into rutile titanium dioxide at high temperature, anatase titanium dioxide

Powder has no melting point and boiling point, only rutile titanium dioxide has melting point and boiling point, its melting point is 1850ºC, the melting point in air is (1830 15)ºC, and the melting point in oxygen-enriched air is 1879ºC, which is related to the purity of titanium dioxide. Rutile titanium dioxide has a boiling point of (3200 300) K, and it is slightly volatile at this high temperature.

Although titanium dioxide is hydrophilic, its hygroscopicity is not strong. Rutile titanium dioxide is even smaller than anatase titanium dioxide, and its hygroscopicity is related to its surface area. The larger the surface area, the higher its hygroscopicity, and its hygroscopicity will also be related to surface treatment and properties.

The production process of titanium dioxide is generally divided into sulfuric acid method and chlorination method. However, sulfuric acid production will produce a lot of by-products, and the discharge of "three wastes" is large, which will cause harm to the environment. However, chlorination production will not have the problem of environmental pollution. As far as the current environmental protection policy is concerned, chlorination production may become the main production process.

The application field of titanium dioxide is also very extensive. It can be used in coatings, plastics, rubber, paper making and other industries.

Sometimes, in order to lighten the color of plastic, rayon is more shiny, and sometimes titanium dioxide is added. In the rubber industry, titanium dioxide can also be used as a filler for rubber. It can also be used in cosmetics to help people protect themselves from the sun, and titanium dioxide is not toxic and will not cause harm to the human body. It can also purify the air, cool the earth and other uses.
