Melanotan II was originally developed at the University of Arizona. Studies conducted by the agency confirm that the best way to prevent skin cancer is to activate the melanin in the skin, known as tan. The researchers believe that an effective way to reduce the incidence of skin cancer in individuals is to induce the body's natural pigment system to produce a tan color that is protective before exposure to ultraviolet light. Melanogenesis is the process by which skin pigment cells (melanocytes) produce the hormone alpha-mSH, which naturally leads to skin pigment (melanin).
After conducting numerous clinical trials using endogenous hormones in the body, scientists have found that although alpha-MSH appears to be effective, it has a very short half-life in the body and can be used as a therapeutic drug. So they choose to look for more stable, more effective and more practical alternatives. Later, after many experiments, they developed Melanotan I and later Melanotan II.
Malanotan II is used to tan the skin and produce erections when administered as a subcutaneous injection in men with erectile dysfunction. Malanotan II is safe when used to treat erectile dysfunction under strict medical supervision. However, it may cause stomach cramps, tiredness, nausea, spontaneous penis erection and darkening of the skin.
