Magnesium carbonate is an inorganic compound with the formula MgCO3, molecular weight 84.31 and relative density 3.037. The appearance is white granular powder. It decomposes at 350 ° C and loses carbon dioxide at 700 ° C. Slightly soluble in cold water, slowly soluble in acid. The trihydrate is a colorless acicular crystal with a melting point of 165ºC and a relative density of 1.850. The pentahydrate is a white monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 1.73, which is decomposed by heating in air. The hydrate can be obtained by passing carbon dioxide into the magnesium brine solution and adding sodium carbonate at the same time, and anhydrous substances can be obtained by drying the hydrate below 50 ° C.
