Glucuronolactone, together with biphenyldiphenhydramine and carnitine, are liver-protective drugs commonly used in China to enhance the detoxification function of the liver and have a protective effect against a variety of liver toxicity. It is also known as glucuronolactone, hepatic tylenol, leucovorin and claudic acid. It is rapidly decomposed into glucuronic acid after entering the body and participates in hepatic detoxification, combining with metabolites, drugs and poisons containing phenolic groups, hydroxyl and amino groups in the liver or intestine into non-toxic glucuronic acid conjugates and excreted from the urine via the kidneys, so it has the function of protecting the liver and detoxification. It also reduces hepatic amylase activity and prevents glycogenolysis, resulting in an increase in hepatic glycogen and a decrease in fat storage. Clinically glucuronolactone is mainly used for the treatment of acute and chronic hepatitis, early cirrhosis, food and drug poisoning, etc. It is also used in the treatment of arthritis and collagen diseases as it is an important component of connective tissue and collagen.
