CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY:
Albendazole bolus 2500mg with its low solubility, limited amount of the given dose of Albendazole is absorbed from the stomach and intestine. However, once the drug is absorbed peak plasma level can occur in 2-4 hours. The plasma level is seldom greater than 1% of the dose administered because of its relatively low solubility. Albendazole is slowly excreted.
INDICATION:
Albendazole 2500mg bolus is a broad spectrum anthelmintic for control of the following type of internal parasites in cattle. Gastrointestinal Roundworms&Lungworms: Abomasal Nematodes: Haemonchus(adults, late and early immature) Ostertagia( adults, late and early immature) trichostrongylus.Lung worms: Dictyocaulus(filarial and vivipara) protostrongylus and muellarius. Tape Worms: Moniezia heavy infestation in yound lambs can cause signsof poor growth and a roughness of the wool and hair. Trematodes:Fasciola hepatica, fasciola gigentica and dicrocoelium dendricum.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
For roundworms/tapeworms Cattle/buffalo/horse/sheep/goat/pig: 5mg/kg body weight Dog/cat: 10 to 25mg/kg body weight For flukes Cattle/buffalo: 10ml/kg body weight Sheep/goat: 7.5mg/kg body weight
REACTION/SIDEEFFECTS:
No side effects at the prescribed dosage rate.
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:
Albendazole at the fluke level dose to ewes should not be dosed during tupping and for one month after the rams are removed. Pregnant ewes have shown teratogenic effects during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th week of gestation so it is contraindicated and should not be prescribed in first month of pregnancy.
WITHDRAWAL TIME:
Milk from treated animals must not be used for human consumption until 72 hour.
