Description

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is the glycol ether of methyl cellulose, in which hydroxypropyl and methyl are combined by ether bond and anhydrous glucose ring of cellulose, which is white to gray white cellulose powder or particle, and has the characteristics of cold water dissolution and hot water insolubility similar to methyl cellulose. The solubility in organic solvents is better than that in water. It can be soluble in anhydrous and ethanol solutions, as well as in chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones and other organic solvents. It is soluble in water, and its aqueous solution has surface activity. After drying, it forms a film. After heating and cooling, it undergoes a reversible conversion from sol to gel.

It can be used alone in cold drinks or combined with other emulsifiers and stabilizers. The maximum dosage in cold drinks is 1%. In recent years, it has been widely used in petrochemical industry, paper making, leather, textile printing and dyeing, medicine, food, cosmetics and other industries as dispersant, thickener, adhesive, excipient, capsule, oil resistant coating and filler.
